French POLE Beans

do I treat these the same as runners? I have bought some heritage seed to try out......

Must admit to never growing french beans before, but I've got some seed off DD. and plan to grow them like runners.

yes,

, you do not make much difference other then more tender to eat.

not all french beans need tall supports - many are dwarf varieties and need no more than 3ft high pea stick style supports

there are only two varieties of french bean that i have grown that climb high - and about 12 diff varieties that don't climb

I've grown both under the same conditions as my runners and found the dwarf beans to be better croppers. That may just be luck, soil or the weather but I am definately doing them again this year.

i have to agree with you ice - i think dwarfs (beans thats is - not little peeps) give you alot more productivity

and i like them more than runners and flats too - and great raw

We grew dwarf french beans last year I think they were Opera and they didn't need any support as they weren't very tall. Lovely crop and very tasty.
