Fox repellant plant!!!
« on: January 17, 2011, 08:52 »
Hi all,  spent a very lazy weekend reading through seed and plant catalogues and in two of them they advertise a plant called Coleus Canina or "Scardy Cat" and claim that cats, dogs and foxes hate the smell and "foxes avoid this plant like the plague".

Does anyone have experience of this plant ,as if it's correct what the catalogue says it could mean and explosion of sales and a lot of safer chooks?
3 dogs now, 2 passed RIP Poppy and Paige, one wonderful husband and a new adventure on this wonderful island

I wouldn't rely on it.

Hi Kathy. I wouldn't rely on it either. A couple of years ago before we got hens, I was having a problem with neighbour's cats using the vegetable patch as a litter tray. I tried planting these to put them off but they didn't seem to even notice it - it didn't work!

Hi Kathy. Don't rely on it, I have one but the fox still occasionally comes in my back garden. I also tried the male urine thing but that doesn't work either. I can't prove it doesn't actually work as I don't sit up all night! The only time I've seen the fox in the back garden he was by the ponds which is where we get the odd rat or mouse, he didn't go near the chicken run.

Thanks everyone for your replies, I think I'll give it a miss and save my money. As has been said "if it looks and sounds too good to be true, it usually is too good to be true" ::)
