broad beans
« on: August 18, 2011, 00:19 »
i only planted broad beans as an after thought, as a result they went in later than they should have, the flowers are turning brownish from the bottom up, there is no sign of the dreaded black fly, can anyone throw any light on the issue please

There might be little pods forming -- the flowerd die off as this happens.

People start their broad beans megga early to get a crop before the blackfly realise there are beans on the menu,   looks like you are carrying out the same ruse but at 'the back end'.   Let us know the outcome.    ::)  Cheers,    Tony.

Glad everything is well.

Just remember that if it gets late in the season and the bean pods are not filling up, that you can eat the little ones whole, steamed  :D
