My Chicken has eaten a lenth of string
« on: June 05, 2009, 15:34 »
Hi
One of my chickens managed to eat a length of string which was about 20cm in length, will it be ok or should i take it to the vets?

was it natural fibre or man made?  If it was natural it may be able to be digested, if not then maybe not, I would ring the vet for advice, it's cheaper than a visit!

whoops!
keep her off grass, and mixed corn. Give her a light diet of just pellets/mash and grit to avoid anything getting tangled in crop.Feed a little bread soaked in olive oil to stop it getting stuck and add double dose of ACV (apple cider vinegar in the drinking water)to aid digestion. She should pass it within a couple of days. Keep a very close eye on her crop -particulary if it starts to feel hard in the mornings as this would indicate the string is "binding" in her crop. :)
