Title: Flighty chicks, wing clipping?
Post by: jo40 on October 12, 2009, 22:14
Hello
I would like to know if it is ok to clip my chicks wings, they are 8 week cream legbars. They were in a covered run inside the electric fencing but it doesn't give them a great deal of room to stretch their legs (and wings). I have run area that I have used to separate new birds, so as it was a nice weekend I let them have the run of it. They loved it, chasing each other around. I am concerned though as they were often taking off to about 3ft! The electric fencing is 4ft.
Would it be ok to clip them now to be safe or could it cause a problem with them being so young?

Once they understand about the electric fence, I doubt they'll try to fly over it.
Others may say different but mine keep well within the boundary

It is just chicken wire that separates them from my mini flock though, I don't like to think what they would might do to them if they ended up 'on the wrong side of the fence

I would clip one wing.  For piece of mind.
