Brussels sprouts
« on: April 07, 2013, 15:54 »
Last year I tried growing sprouts for the first time, using the Montgomery variety.  They weren't a huge success, reaching only about 12" in height and producing no sprouts.  I used the first 6 tops as cabbage greens.  I went to the plot today expecting to dig out the remainder.  Imagine my astonishment to find the remaining 3 plants all with tiny little sprouts appearing.

Question is, should I leave them to see what develops, or am I wasting my time as they will run to seed before anything happens?

Any ideas why growth slow and stunted too?  I usually have success with brassicas, they seem to like our soil.  Was it just a rotten year?

I'd put it down to a bad year. My sprouts were rubbish, several plants did not produce any.
