Can carrots store in sacks?

Cos if they do, it would be a lot less hassle then storing them in sand. Can anyone tell me if this would work?

You can store them short term in hessian sacks, never plastic which don't breath. But they'd need to be in a very cool root cellar location to do this. I did this for a few years but the carrots still sprouted or rotted quickly and I no longer do this. I now use slightly damp sand or peat moss in slotted plastic bins lined with lightweight weed barrier fabric.

IMO Long term storage is sand/compost or in the freezer ;)

Freezer? I'd have thought they'd have gone mushy, like spuds do.

You have to blanch them first and they do tend to be a bit soft on cooking but still taste good.

Must admit that I tried freezing carrots and hated the taste. Good only in something like stews where you can't notice the mushier texture.
