Title: Figs
Post by: noshed on June 21, 2006, 14:03
Anybody had any experience with growing figs? The petshop has got some quite good looking little trees for £3.50 and I was thinking of having a go. There's a few trees on our site already. I know you're supposed to restrict the roots. Is it best to grow more than one?

Figs do reasonably well in the UK but you must restrict the roots (plant in a pot, root control bag or line with bricks) otherwiswe you get all growth and no fruit.  Best variety is Brown Turkey (or was it yellow chicken - no only kidding)

I remember we had a fig tree in the school garden, that was when the local school had a garden and not a block of old folks flats on the land! There was a massive fig tree and I can´t ever remember there being much fruit, plenty of leaves though!
