For a start, to save on the use of chemicals you could consider barriers such as copper band or egg shells against slugs etc. :)

On our plot, the biggest (literally!) pests are birds, deer and rabbits - not really pesticide territory!! But fences and nets and mesh and fleece are all good barriers for preventing pests getting to your crops in the first place.

I use blue slug pellets but only under netting so hedgehogs and birds don't eat the dead slugs.  I also use Provado Ultimate bugkiller sparingly and exactly in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations.  Both of which are very effective.

I have just checked the label on Provado Ultimate Bug Killer and it is only licensed for use on houseplants and non-edibles. So not for use on fruit and vegetables.

Slug pellets only so far.  Last year I used a bug spray (wilkos own brand) and it did nothing to get rid.  I hated using it (in GH) and am glad I now wont bother again.

Ive nothing against anyone using anything, tis just not for me.

I'm very weary of pesticides, mainly cos I don't know the knock on effects to me and the environment.  I also like the other methods of pest control- like sucking up white fly with a hand held hoover, beer traps, and inviting pest predators in! Might be good to try an alternative first just in case the problem is easily solved without spending money on chemicals.. If you do, please make sure you don't spray on a windy day  :)

I use organic slug pellets, and I might occasionally use washing up liquid. Other than that, nothing  :)

I prefer to use debris netting to deter caterpillars, and fleece to deter carrot fly  :)

Bayer do an Organic Pest Control spray, and I use organic slug pellets and washup liquid for aphids.

Here's the link to Bayer for their Provado Ultimate Bug Spray (not aerosol) which says it can be used on veg

I use nothing except organic slug pellets, a bit of netting and a patient mood for picking off caterpillars :) To me it kind of defeats the point of growing your own if you're going to use chemicals just like the mass producers do.

Don't use any at all. If I can't grow without chemicals .....eg carrots....I don't bother, or put them in pots as this year. I do pour salt over the slug highways though, hate doing it though.
