Hi All,

Does anyone have any experience in sweet talking parish councils? Im trying to persuade ours, Hambleton near Selby, to provide allotments.

We have none whatsoever in the village, so this really is starting from the very beginning. The parish council should (hopefully) be discussing it at todays meeting. Then i need to get together all the people who are interested.

Anyone in the local area who can offer support?

Anyone in Hambleton?

Anyone any idea how much an allotment site would cost the parish to set up, including land, fences, water supply etc etc?


Surely it wouldnt cost too much, all we need is a fenced site and a water standpipe, the allotmenteers would do the rest!!!

i read that if 5 or more people with in a certain area want an allotment the council are legally obligued to provide them. this happened where my mum lives and the council bought some land off a farmer.

Thats right, no one seems quite sure of the numbers, but its low, i was working to 8.

this is the way im hoping to go with the council to get something arranged

Good luck, I didn't know anything about this. The lack of allotments was putting me off a certain place I would have liked to live.

The researcher/reporter for the Selby Times is willing to do an article on it for me. Im going to leave that until after thursday when the council have discussed it. I thought the meeting was today.


Get onto your council and give them an earbashing!
