Poppy's just layed an egg. I wish she would conserve her energy instead.
Made an appointment with the vet 5.45 this evening. Hope to have some pain relief for her.
Will keep you posted.
El.

Hi all,
She was given a thorough examination by this vet. He keeps 8,000 chickens so must know his stuff. She was given an anti-inflamatory injection and I was told that it was time she needed now to heal.
She has eaten well this morning and is in the run with the others out and about in the garden. They will not be allowed back in untill she's eaten most of her food. She's had a strawberry and some hard boiled egg and shell. I will get her some grit today because she's not freeranging.
I hope she's having enough calcium.
Will keep you posted.
Thanks.

Hello,
It has been a long time, but Poppy finally stood up for the first time on Tuesday this week.
Since then she has been very gradually getting about more.
She slept in the coop with the other girls on Wednesday. She was so desperate to go up the steps to join them that I gave in and lifted her in.
She seems to be stepping on her own feet and tripping herself up, hopefully that will improve.
Unfortunately she seem to have started moulting big time, which is a bit worrying. But it could be because she has only just had access to a decent dust bath. She had to put up with me washing her bottom for a while.
She is still very unsteady on her feet but on the mend surely. It seems to have taken a while and at times we have worried that it was cruel to keep her like she was.
We will be putting poultry spice in all their feed while they are moulting. Has anyone got any suggestions on what to give her to boost her strength?
Am keeping all my fingers crossed.
Cheers,

Glad she is on the mend  :D.
You can give probiotic yoghurt, or as I have just found at our pet shop a thing called Avipro plus which is a soluble probiotic and pre biotic enhancer. I also have a thing called Orego-stim which helps in times of stress including ill health and moulting. Some people also give cat food (not chicken flavour and not too much) which gives them extra protein. I think there is also several bird tonic liquids that can be added to their water as well as adding good old garlic  :D

Thanks Joyfull,
I like the sound of Orego-stim and will give it a go also the garlic. I have been put off giving them cat food because she had a very runny, smelly poo on the vets table (ooops) and she  recognized the smell as cat faeces.
Will try to locate some Orego-stim at the local farmers co-op tomorrow.
