I know this subject has been covered but I can't find where. Can some please tell me the method for making basic home made bitter? I'm a total beginner and i don't even know where to start. Please help. :(
My wife made all the pies, then I ate them!!!

www.the-online-homebrew-company.co.uk

I recommend that you start with a "kit beer" and progress from there.

Barley is malted to convert the sugars to those suitable to brewing. It is then mashed in warm water to extract those sugars and the resulting liquid boiled to sterilise it and help the unwanted proteins to coagulate. Hops are added during the boil to add bitterness, aroma and help preserve the finished beer. Once colled yeast is added to ferment some of the sugar into alcohol.

Once fermentation in complete the beer is then barrelled, or bottled depending on your preference.

There is of course a lot more to doing it successfully, and ending up with a clear beer which suits your taste, but that is, generally the basic principle to brewing beer.

You can choose to buy malted barley and mash and boil it yourself, or you can buy part made kits which are already mashed and boiled which you then ferment.
I hoe, I hoe, it's off to weed I go.

Take a look on this web site  http://www.jimsbeerkit.co.uk/index.htm will give you load of info on brewing beer.

I am a keen home brewer of beer and use the all-grain method.  This make beer just like real ales you get down the pub.  If you want any advice feel free to ask.  Jai where in the UK are you???

being new to this forum I didn't want to cross post to another, but you'll find me at Jim's, as user "Confused".

It's not the only UK Homebrew forum but IMHO it's by far the best.
