Wire coathangers?
« on: April 19, 2012, 10:50 »
Can you still get them? I find them useful for things like wiring the pallet sides of compost heap  or making small cloche hoops and temporary  plant supports. They don't seem to be used in shops anymore.
I'll try a want add on Freecycle cos if anyone is like my wife they will have hundreds of coat hangers( I have used all her's up).
Also any more ideas for their use if I manage to find a supply.

Made a start have beds established but moved in too late for serious planting. We shall see what 2015 brings.

It reminds me of a top-tip out of VIZ comic a few years ago - "make cheap coat hangars by bending old car aerials into shape"

Find a friend who has to wear a suit to work.
My daughter takes her hubby's suits to the dry cleaners and gives me the hangers

My local Trashco has a hanger recycling bin so it may be worth asking there (if it's anything like their battery recycling here, which goes into the trash compactor - but I'm not supposed to know about that... :tongue2:) and also clothing shops.  :)

If I want to 'wire' something like pallets together to make a compost bin.  I buy the cheap cable ties.

Haven't seen plain wire coat hangers for years.  You used to get them when you picked up your dry cleaning!

Yes, my compost bins are cable tied. Have also used spokes from larger bike wheels to hold down netting.

Dry cleaners give them out - so maybe a freecycle wanted might work.  Worth a try!!
