@Grendel - yes, that would be useful - if I was in your neck of the woods!

That seems a bit rude, Kevin. Grendel was only suggesting the gravel boards as an alternative, most of the builders merchants/DIY sheds have offers on them from time to time.
Have you looked at the price of gravel boards in your location?

MoS - No, I didn't intend any rudeness. I'm genuinely sorry if it came out that way. Even as I read it now, I remember the smile I had when writing it. My mindset was the irony of having very cheaply priced wood far away.

So, thanks for checking what I meant. If you look back at my posts, you'll see a lean towards a dry humour, but never knowlingly rude.

Apologies again - esp. to those who are/were offended.

Thank goodness, Grendel - you are kind to reply.

Yes, I have been checking the prices of local gravel boards - after your suggestion - thanks. It seems to me local timber merchants can be dear, while specialists do have other options open to them.

I'll weigh up the pros and cons of different woods and plastics and come up with something that costs me least for now. In the longer term, I will invest more.

Thanks for all your help, everyone!

I found around 40 of them dumped at the side of the road around the corner of my house, safe to say they didnt last long there, but I did manage to smash my windscreen transporting them to the allotment (had 25 full length boards in at once and they bounced and smashed the windscreen lol)

Still my best find to date, and insurance covered the windscreen damage lol

If you speak to local builders carpenters and roofers they often have timber from jobs that they take back to their yard rather than putting in a skip, people often pop in to collect material to burn. I got 30 garage rafters for free

Thanks for that. I'll be sure to keep an eye out! With the mileage I do, I might pick up a few pieces!

Preloved.co.uk has lots of places advertising boards all around the country at around 80p per foot. I found a place near us that sold them (all sorts of lengths) at 50p a foot. I bought some but when I went back, they were closing down. When I asked why, he said he got a better price with less hassle sending them to China to be turned into garden furniture and shipped back to the UK so he was collecting them up and sending them by the container load.

Who would have thought there was a business in that!
