Everything out of season 75p at Wilkinsons
« on: May 11, 2013, 13:24 »
I don't know if anyone is interested (or if this indeed a good deal at all) but Wilkos are selling bulbs and plants for 75p. I bought some asparagus because I worked on the theory that they have to be in the ground for a few years anyway.. oh and some summer bulbs 'nerine' and 4 more packets of seeds (seeds were not in the sale)    .....!
My husband's a water sign, I'm an earth sign, together we make mud :-)

My gardening diary is here - go on, have a peek , you might be able to help me!

When weeding, the best way to know if its a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull it.

If it comes out easy, it was a valuable plant !

I haven't got experience with rhubarb, so I was sceptical as to whether it was worth buying their discount crowns. Anyone know how long they last out the ground and sat in packets like that?

Don't get me wrong, I bought a piece and stuck it in what little soil our garden has :tongue2: but I'll be surprised if something grows from it.

there worth a go ,i was in homebase couple months ago and they had rhubarb bare roots in pkts 10p also buy two get one three so i got threepkts for 20p lady at desk said they been hanging around ages but for 20p whats lost,i bunged them in three big planters stuck the planters up by the pond and lo behold three very young rhubarb plants looking fit and healthy :) so nothing ventured nothing gained :)
