Can anybody give any guidelines on what sort of rent you should pay for a patch of land in the west Midlands. Is it costed by the square metre or acre, the state of the land when you take it on or whatever the landlord thinks they can get for it? I've no idea how much allotments cost, but is Council pricing a good guide to go by?

well ours will be £25 for the full plot for the year.
its 8yrd x 80 yrd which I am lead to believe is 1sq Rod
ours is not a council plot its run by the town Freemen.
the ex council plots here are roughly half this size9 probably due to demand) and I think are £30.

in hull east yorkshire we pay £25-00 for 25yds x 10yds , 250 sq yrds

we also get charged £5-00 per year for water

We rent a bit of land down the road from us for growing our veg. It is 100ft x 35ft and we pay £5 a year. It had not had anything grown on it for 5 years when we got it but before that an old gentleman cultivated some of it and that was his rent. Obviously no water or facitlities as it is just a piece of land.

That sounds like just the tonic Matron and looks like you've done a very tidy job on it too. I'm hoping to look at a piece of land today which i believe has a similar set of circumstances to yours, but some idea of rents people pay is great, so I don't get caught out with silly prices. Do you have a recognised tenancy agreement in place or is it a gentlemans agreement?

I pay £15 for half a plot in Rugby (a private site). It is approx 8m x 21m. I think pensioners/concessions pay less.

£18 for half a plot in Huntingdon.  I started my plot just a couple of weeks before the new charging year started, and got a bill for about 75p for the remainder of the old year

Up here in South Shields its £85.05 for 285squ metres. I have had the plot just over a year and i am still clearing the plot of rubbish, do not get no help or discount.

mine is 40ft by 90ft and costs £30 a year. It's council land but run by our allotment association

up here in suffolk my rent for this year was the grand sum of £4 thats for 160ft x 35ft water included
