fermentation problem

So after 10 days of letting blackberries sit in water with a campden tablet and some pectalose i get around to putting it in the demijohn for fermentation.

all well and good, I've got a bit too much so put I it into 2 demijohn's.

1st one I put in 3lbs sugar, 1tsp yeast and 1tsp pectalose.

2nd one i put in 2lbs sugar, 1tsp yeast and 1tsp pectalose.

2 hours later the 2nd one is bubbling away and the 1st aint doing nout!

I leave it a few more hours until I'm about to go to bed and still nout, so I pop in 4tsp of yeast nutrient and give it a good stir.

I get up this morning and still nothing while number 2 is still bubbling merrily away.

not sure if i should empty the 1st one into a pot, heat it up a bit to about 30 degrees and add more yeast or should i just wait.

any ideas anyone please.

I can't think why it wouldn't work. Did you add any yeast nutrient? Is the yeast from the same source?

Morning all,

Stoatus - i used the same yeast, same sugar, same pectalose and 4 tsp yeast nutrient. Only difference was the two demijohns.

Last night i emptied the demijohn into a pot and heated the "wine" to 70C then let it cool down to 40C. i skimmed off any scum that formed on top.

I added 1 tsp of Youngs "super wine yeast" and 1/2 tsp of regular yeast.

This morning it was bubbling away nicely.

I can only think that i must have not rinsed the equipment well enough which seems unlikely as i pay attention to the cleaning as it's so important.

anyway, hope it helps someone else if they have a similar problem.
