Moving seedings off the propagator
« on: March 07, 2011, 21:17 »
I've got some ricinus and cobaea scandens in the propagotor (lids are off) that will need potting on next week, but can I then take them out of the propagator and keep them on the greenhouse bench? - the greenhouse isn't heated but I do have a heater that can be put on should a sharp frost be forecast. Thanks as ever, Jude.

I'd check to see whether they are hardy or half-hardy plants.

If the former, I think they should be OK so long as you harden them off properly before removing them from a warm propagator to a cold unheated greenhouse.

If the latter, I think they are likely to sulk in the greenhouse.  I would keep them somewhere warmer for another month or two.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

if youv'e got the time acclimatise them slowly to the greenhouse in the day time and back into the cosy propogator at night for 7-14 days. This should stop any check.
