That's the way I did it last year. These two links might help :

I don't have club root but followed the advice anyway.

I think I planted out mine from the 5" pots in June in the end

I'll be sowing some in pots at the weekend in the hope that they'll be at the right stage to plant where my first earlies come out.
Having said that though brassicas like firm soil so I'll have to find a way to compact the soil once the spuds come up
I'm banned for being obnoxious (not pompous as you might have thought)

I grow mine in 9cm / 3.5" pots. I find that 3" pots are a bit too small, and the plants are struggling by the time I plant out, so I use 3" pots for things that I plan to pot-on to a bigger pot, and 3.5" for things that will go straight out.

If you need to hold them back to plant after something else then perhaps 3" first and pot on to 4.5" or 5" would be best.

If you are growing on in pots remember you will have to water regularly

If you are using potting compost consider adding a little lime

;) that's what I do and has worked very well up till now.  I actually pot them on into bigger pots - the main reason is not so much lack of growing space, but to ensure the roots are strong and healthy before planting out to reduce the risk of clubroot which is a big problem on my plot.
Failure is only a temporary change in direction to set you straight for your next success.
Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.
