60% price increase on eggs here in bulgaria
« on: March 08, 2012, 18:26 »
Just wondered about Egg prices back home in light of recent developents here.

Egg producers in Bulgaria are under investigation for price fixing after the price increased 60% overnight.

We were paying 3 lev for 12 but on saturday this was 4.8 lev (£2.05)

The ministry of agriculture is threatening to withdraw payments made towards Chicken welfare to bring the standards up to EU regulations if the price fixing is confirmed. This isn't good for the chickens.

What price are eggs in the UK now?

It has been said that Poland will increase exports to Bulgaria to try to bring the price down.

The reward of a thing well done is to have done it....

Ours must be the dearest eggs in Europe!

We did a complete rebuild of the henhouse plus refencing of their yard. With all the materials bought, plus the labour costs I don't dare do the sums.  ::)

In the supermarkets you can only buy battery eggs for that price!

Listening to Radio 4 they said that we have banned imports from countries that are not complying with the new regulations but this has led to a shortage.  I am assuming that the prices in the shops will rise quite steeply.

I'm sure that the reason the egg prices have gone up so much is because of compliance with the new laws on Enriched Cages.

A lot of battery farmers did say that it was too expensive to change to Enriched Cages, so that's how they do it, by passing on the costs to the customer. But that's only fair, because you wouldn't go into business if you expected to pay for all the costs yourself! (that's kind of the point of charging for stuff)
