Garlic spray is no panacea.  It's a broad spectrum pesticide and will likely do more harm than good if used liberally outdoors.

I've also used the new style slug pellets for a while.  I don't know if this works or is just coincidence so I have convinced myself it does, but I always scatter a few pellets around the appropriate bit of my plot n the week or 2 prior to planting or sowing, as well as afterwards.

I read on here somewhere a few years ago that the trick is use a little but more frequently, as they are a longer term solution than the old style pellets.

While clearing out a shed the other day, I found an old slug trap that was used with beer to drown the critters!

With good ale at a fiver a pint - yup, sure too...;0)

Mind you, surely a bit of dried yeast in water would to the same thing?

You can get four cans of cheep bitter in tesco for £1 and it works OK in the slug traps. :D

I use 500ml plastic water bottles cut in half, if you screw the lid on tight you get two slug traps per bottle.
Remember to put a little stick in each one so that beetles etc stand a chance of climbing out.

Mum, I think Stig knows my local pub, so can he put a good word in please?

I did give the Landlord a chair we didn't want, so my card is marked...!
