The other good thing about Sarpo Mira is that they have really tough skins and the slugs find it very hard to get into them.

If you're eating them baked, make sure you're wearing your best dentures!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I've gone for Charlotte, Setanta and (seeing as last year's spuds were decimaed by blight) Sarpo Mira. Good to see plenty of positive comments on SM.

Based on a mixture of this thread, last year's experience and wanting to try something new, I've gone for:

5 Red Duke of York - Not tried before.
5 Pentland Javelin - Did well last year, and the last few are still in storage.

5 Maxine - Not tried before
2.5 Kg of Sarpo Mira - Sounds like a good spud from what you all say!

I wanted Kestrel as it was brilliant for me last year, but they only had 25KG sacks, and we don't use that many potatoes! I'll pick a few up later if I see them in a shop.

All sorted with mine now  :)

Got 20 of each which is loads for me, but making a determined effort to grow as much as possible and keep those veg bills down  ::)

Belana - mini new potato which I am going to grow half in the greenhouse in buckets for a super early crop and half outside

Charlotte - 'cos they are lovely eating

Kestral - as above plus I have a heavy patch of ground I have dug old fruit bushes out of which needs bringing back to life and Kestral seem to laugh in the face of clay and grow anyway  :)

Sarpo Mira - don't always grow main crops but I have grown these before and they are very productive and store well.

I grew Anya last year and they were good, so if I spot some at work, may buy a few to crowbar into the plot somewhere  :)

I have gone with Ulster Classic as a first early and British Queen as a second early.  No room for main crop too.
