A little rough but not at all bad
« on: February 21, 2012, 14:24 »
I've just racked 1gal of my first fruit juice based wine - to be honest it's not bad at all    Its a little sharp, which I assume will lessen over time and needs to clear but its really not a bad first attempt.

Im not a big wine drinker and even less fond on white wine - but at 40p a bottle / 11% ABV I can learn to drink it  :D

There are liquids available for sweetening finished wine.  OR    Hide it away and drag it out on some sunny summer evening.    ::)  Cheers,     Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

What was your recipe?
Was it a WOW recipe?
If so they get better with a few months behind them  ;)

The dryer the better for my taste to be honest. I think the sharpness is more age related than dryness.

Was it a WOW recipe?

It was - a "by the book" attempt, I wasn't expecting much to be honest, but I'm pleasantly surprised, especially as I used trashco "Sun grown" cheap and nasty juices !

I have one thats 3 months old matureing in a demijon.
When/if you decide to bottle it ad a half tsp of glycerin, this is suposed to give it a smooth feel when drinking, like a said though, get a few months behind it and you don't need to, i have been sampling mine in small shot glasses every month and it's a very nice drinkable wine now.

Have you thoroughly de gassed it?

Im following the post by Moley >>> Clicky <<<  the glycerin is in there already.

I wasn't overly fussy with the degassing but I did give it a go.

I've ordered some 25l fermenting vessels on the back of yesterdays sample from the trial jar so I can get some bottles down to mature.

There's also 1g of RGJ and cranberry that should be ready to rack in a week or so which is very pink !

Pictures ... that's what this section of the board is lacking !

So for your entertainment here's my Wow 5 days after racking / clearing.

Its probably going to end up in the Greywacke bottles I spent all day cleaning the labels off yesterday - OMG now that's what I call glue !
