iceland sell pretty cheap hunny can't remember the exact price but wasn't more than a couple of quid for a large jar, think I'll have a go myself.

OH reading book after book on bee keeping (think he's gonna go for it)!!!  me a little worried about swarms etc (and bee poo on washing, which i read can be a problem)....

However.... big plus - could get free hunny!!!

to make mead become a bea keeper , first go alone to your local group they set me up with some second hand gear for nothing kept bee for six year but found three plots and bee keeping to much so got rid of the bees
but still have a little honey left over . second why is to go to a local be auction mine is at linc show ground sell all sorts of stuff and honey still in wax most times it is still very cheap as it is set honey used for feeding the bees but make great mead ,  :twisted:  yours big green bloke

Just found out there's a Bee keeper in the village so I'm going to seek him out :)  To scared of Bee's to keep them myself though :shock:

never kept buzzy things myself, unless you count the time i put me boot through a wesps nest on the railway sidings, but a colleage from work got into it about a year back, i bought some on the comb off of him, god it was good, and i dont normally like honey much. Messy as hell but so much fun to squeeze it from the comb!

It seems it can be expensive if you have to buy everything, but when he was setting up i read all the info he had and the designs for the hives to build yourself (you can get kits) and its very interesting.

I would have a go except the missis is scared of anything that buzzs

I'vfe just bottled my second batch of mead - the first batch still tastes like battery acid after a year, but is mellowing - should be drinkable after another year, we think.  The second lot I made was chilli mead, which is pretty fiery stuff!  That seems to have worked well, so I'll be setting up another brew fairly soon.

Try Tesco or Sainsbury economy/budget honey.  It's under a qud a jar and makes loverly flapjack, so assume it could be used for Mead

Absolutely, even if I kept bees, I'd sell the honey to buy cheapo stuff to make mead.

I haven't a clue Auntie?  Why wouldn't it be though?  Bees fly on unleaded fuel - maybe they do things to the hives??
