spinach bolting
« on: September 02, 2011, 21:57 »
 Hi
Ive been growing spinach beet, which is supposed to crop thru to next year and be resistant to bolting. However this does not seem to be the case ,as it has started to bolt and i cant see the rest of the crop lasting till then.
I been watering regularly and tried not to let it dry out,but alas to no avail.
The crop has been really prolific though and ive had plenty of it.

Thanks carl

If it has started to bolt then I think you are right.  We have had unusual weather this year and many plants have reacted in a stressed way where we wouldn't normally expect them to do.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I have had a similar experience with leaf beet this year.  It is normally really reliable and often lasts in to a second season.  This year though, 90% of my plants have bolted.

I'm sure this happened last year so I've cut mine right back and fingers crossed it comes back up. Otherwise it's not too late to sow really?
