Welsh onions
« on: May 19, 2011, 13:20 »
My welsh onions have got a flower bud coming. Do I need to take it off (like garlic...) or should I let it flower?

Your choice, but removing the flower bud will probably divert energy into making the plant bigger.

But if you've not got many onions, seeds will help replenish your stock.

i concur, although i thought welsh onions were propogated by splitting them and transplanting?at least thats what i do, but generally the energy either goes into flowering or bulbs.i always plant some seedlings on a spare patch for seed propogation.anyway good luck.
