Last year I started them off by sowing seeds into modules about this time of year and then planted them out in well manured ground when they were leafier. I only worked in the manure into the ground when I sowed the seeds which I thought at the time woudl be a bit late but no problem  at all and the celeriac they did very well.

Other than watering now and then and feeding later on they pretty much took care of themselves and I got a good crop.

i seem to remember they like to be kept consistently watered once in the ground and forming the bulby bit otherwise they sulk...

we're growing 24 in modules, leafing up nicely though stems still a bit thin. Lost 1 when I left them out in the sun too long the other day! Sowed them in a marge tub then pricked out into the modules

Mine are looking very healthy at the moment in the greenhouse, when is it the best time to plant outside?

Might sow some more myself, put 2 seeds per module in a 24 cell module and only about 15 appeared in total and they've hardly grown since appearing about 2 weeks ago

Mine germinated, did nothing for several weeks, then put out a pair of true leaves. Which obviously exhausted the poor things again as they did nothing for another couple of weeks, and are now growing again. Do they always grow in fits and starts like this?

I find they can be a bit slow at the start and they do seem to like a bit of company, so I just sprinkle the seed across a 24 cell tray and they gradually thin out as they grow. I germinated mine on a windowsill with a plastic cover over the top using wickes multipurpose compost.
