I am planning to plant out my garlic which has been in pots on the patio over winter.  Do they need any protection when planted out (they haven't had any so far), and are there any particular critters I need to beware of or do they tend to leave garlic alone?   Sorry I seem to be full of questions today.

somebody on here had a problem with rabbits recently but its usually one of those things that you can plant and not have to worry about

I protect mine becoz I grow them at home and any newly dug over patch of soil becomes a cat toilet within hours!  but on the plot probably not, though rabbits did nibble my onions and leeks this year so maybe I would even use some chicken wire there, just to deter a bit.  I certainly protect every thing else except spuds.

Mine are in the garden too, our cat has a habit of cr**ping everywhere at the moment but I hoped the garlic smell might put him off.  On second thoughts I might put a bit of chicken wire up just in case.
