My Father-in-Law knocked this compost bin together last week. I'm delighted with it! The sliding door looks and works great! Just got to fill it now.

Ooooooh that's a good un :D Lucky you to have a useful father in law :D
I have one of those too and was going to empty it out today as the stuff has been in it for ages. Mine has no hatch so I'll have to unscrew the front to get at the compost
Might go over there now being as it's not raining at the moment :D

Yep Keith is a dab hand at the old DIY!
I am off to collect a car load of manure from a mates stables tomorrow which is a result. Cant beat an endless supply of free horse poo!
Will put layers of maure and soil in and top up with veg cuttings and grass cuttings from home as we go!
Hope i am doing it right!

Looks great. Mine are similar but much scruffier and lack any gardener intervention apart from the pallets being wired together. I must admit though that I've found it just as easy to swing the front pallet open like a door so you can get a good swing with the fork.
Depends on how much big stuff you've got in the compost though.

We are building a second bin next to this one so maybe trying a different door would be a good idea. After all we have only had our allotment 4/5 weeks so its all trial and error still for us!

this is mine. I put the thuggish stuff in it, cabbage stalks, big sunflower stalks etc
Started turning it out and sieving it with a rotary sieve. It looks great!once sieved I'm using it to fill some small raised beds I'm making out of pallet tops. I'm going to sow some carrots in one of them :D
