Compost and Leaf Mould Bins
« on: February 07, 2007, 08:22 »
Hi

At the moment my compost bin is sqaure made of plastic which has large square gaps in the plastic to left air through.  It fits together like a clothes horse.

I have now purchased a new compost bin and my neighbour as offered me his because his wife as decided it does not fit it with her new planned garden.

I was wondering if I could use my old compost bin for leaf mould :?

Thank you
Bye

Heifer

Leaf mould takes quite a lot of air to do the job quickly.  So it could be ok if there's enough ventilation

I find that leaf mould never rots down quickly. Even when mixed with other vegtable waste, you turn the compost out and find unrotted leaf mould.
I made my compost bins from old doors. 5 doors make 2 side by side bins. Each with an old bit of carpet over it and some odd bits of wood to weight it down.
As the great Percy Thrower used to say
" OI THINK THE ANSWER LIES IN THE SOIL"
