I have three ordinary hydrangeas and haven't got round to pruning them. Two have last year's flowers still on; the third is still in a pot waiting to be transplanted and hasn't flowered as yet. When looking up advice for their pruning, it says late spring. Am I too late to do it now?

You can just cut off the old flowers, but cut any lower and you run the risk of losing this year's flowers

I've still got last years flowers on at least half of mine. As mum said don't hard prune, just cut the old flower heads off down to the first set of strong buds or should I say leaves as we are both so late. It wont make much difference even if we don't do it. The new growth will soon hide the old flower heads so no need to dash out and do it like yesterday.

I find that if i dont or miss some dead flower heads the new growth gets a kink in it.It isn't a problem.Just thought id mention it
