Title: Plot Questions
Post by: erainn on April 08, 2011, 14:11
A plot about 30 yards from mine is going to be blasted with 'roundup', should I be concerned in terms of spread/toxicity?

Secondly, have just planted some carrot/parsnip seeds, what's the best advice in terms of watering between sowing and post-germination?

Roundup (glyphosate) is a systemic weedkiller so you shouldn't experience trouble from that distance. Here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roundup_%28herbicide%29) is the Wikipedia on Roundup which describes, at length, the toxicity.

:)

We currently have some carrots coming along nicely in large pots (as though they were in the ground) and we sow parsnips direct in the ground, so I'm sure someone else who brings these seedlings on in little pots will be along shortly with more advice....

Much appreciated.

I have sown both carrots/parsnips directly into the plot.

Keep the soil damp untill they have true leaves.
Water less the bigger they get, which forces them to grow deeper into the soil, looking for water.
