Dunno about RHP's but my delphiniums and Lupins were both grown from seeds.

Thanks for your reply.

Which varieties were they and where did you get the seeds from ?

Thanks

Red hot pokers can be grown from seed but I've never had luck with them. I just buy started plants, which are tubers in pots. If your area is very cold in winter, give them a winter mulch and they'll come through easily.

from memory the seeds were just packets from suttons but I sowed them last year as they are biannual / biennial ... whatever!

I couldn't tell you the variety off hand but I'll go and do some digging to find out!  brb!

right.. the delphs I sowed were Delight Mix.  Can't see the lupins that I sowed on their website but the varieties they have are really good too so won't harm to try them!

As for the RHP;  their website didn't have any corms, seeds or bulbs so don't know what they are grown from, however a quick google did come up with this linky and it says they are grown from seed

:)

Thanks that's really useful.

I'll have a go with the delphs and lupins next spring.

Do the delphs look a bit dull in the pictures or is it me ?

Thanks

Thank you all.

Great info as always.

I'm off now, I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions to add to this thread during the week !

Thanks again

Lupins - dead easy from seed, or can be container grown.  I can't keep them going for more than a couple of years though. Almost treat them as annuals.

Not sure about RHP, think they're a tuberous type thing.

Re Delphiniums - try Aconitum instead.  Looks identical, doesn't need staking, and 100% slug proof.  Reason for that is extremely toxic, so only OK if no small plant eating people around.
