Can anyone identify this for me please...
« on: April 02, 2009, 18:34 »
Hi everyone, I wonder if anyone can help answer my question..  I appear to have some plants in my plot that are springing up and getting taller by the day.
They appear to be in a row planted 2 wide, but I havn't got a clue when it comes to identifying them... anyone any idea's?

I would say peony too. They are real survivors and often keep growing when all else is overgrown.
There are lots of varieties with red, pink or white flowers but red is the most common.
They are great as cut flowers, long lasting and with a look of old roses.
They can be dried too - pick them before the flower is fully open and hang somewhere warm & dry
Playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order!

Looks identical to the peonies in our garden. You can buy them as cut flowers these days but from the look of these you won't be needing to

:D They (along with Daff's) are in a section of the plot approx 4m x 3m, although I like flowers (as does the wife), I can think of better uses for the land... ie, VEG  :D :D

Then again.... wife... flowers... FREE flowers.... I think they might just be staying now...

You can move them (they're perennial), although the plants won't flower for a year or two after being disturbed.  They're quite deep-rooting, so dig up a rootball at least twice as big as you think you need!

I would agree with the peonies, i moved ours a few years ago and they came into flower first year, i did move them when dormant though.

I'd say peony too - it looks identical to my Dr. Alexander Fleming.
