There are variuos varieties of purple sprouting & some crop earlier than others although all usually are sown in late spring for cropping from December onwards. White sprouting crops a little later than the purple uually, but in my opinion is the tastiest. The purple variety that you can sow & plant out any time now for autumn cropping is Wok Brock & can be sown for successional growing to give spears until Christmas I believe. I don't know what it's like, but I'm trying some this year cos I love sprouting broccoli.

It is confusing - there are different types of PSB. The usual is sown in spring for cropping Jan to March 10ish months later (give or take a few weeks depending on planting out times and weather).

There's also a PSB that is reportedly supposed to flower / crop in late summer. I sowed the seeds, it germiated (slowly) and then was stuck into the ground as quite small plants and left to get on with it in a miserable little clump.... Not an impressive start. Not sure where I went wrong but they cropped along with the rest - early spring!! 

Main crop of PSB still producing but it wont be for long now.

Not tried the white.... love the purple!!
