Title: Fruit Bushes
Post by: Glosterboy on September 25, 2009, 09:45
Our local £1 Shop are currently selling Blackcurrant, Redcurrant and Gooseberry bushes. Bare-rooted of course. As anybody had any previous experience of the quality and quantity of such purchase?
Thanks.

I bought some of these cheap fruit bushes in March of this year.  Out of the 9 that I bought, (3 each of raspberry, gooseberry and blackcurrant) only one didn't thrive.  The remaining 8 bushes are doing really well. At the time I was a bit worried that I was taking a risk, but am pleased that I did now!

£1 a plant is well worth a punt.

I would council providing them with the very best care and attention when you put them in as these plants may not be first quality plants, but a fruit bush, is a fruit bush and I'd rather pay £1 than the £9 plus PP I paid from Ken Muir for my Red current "Jonkheer" bush.

I'm not knocking Ken.  He has a beautiful website he makes me want to spend money!
