New puddycat
« on: March 15, 2010, 12:14 »
We just picked up another cat last night via Freecycle of all places, and she's lovely.

Some 'cat politics' taking place now, but they'll settle soon enough.  ::)

We have now got both our young cats through Freecycle and been very lucky indeed - both needed rehoming, one due to the owner's daughter's allergies and the other due to an over-amorous Rottweiler (I kid you not), and both cats are the most affectionate moggies ever!

The new cat (black and white) is called Angel, though the kids want to rename her Mittens (after the cat in Bolt) and Molly is the tabby...

They are sweet, and I think mittens suits her as she has white feet  :D
Staffies are softer than you think.

Yes, it does seem a better name to me; I didn't feel that Angel was a particularly 'moggy' name...

Can you rename a cat; it's not like boats, is it?

it depends on how used to her old name she is, perhaps start off calling her angel mittens and then start to miss the angel part off.
Some boats do get renamed especially after a run of bad luck I think.

We've found that young cats quickly respond to a change in name, they seem to answer to tone as much as the name. Older cats are more difficult. The one that we've never re-named was Squeak (stupid name!) but we've got used to it because he was about 8 years old when he came to us.

What a cute little kitty   How old is she scabs? I've renamed cats upto about 6 years old and no problem - older than that and they get a bit stuck in their ways (although I don't think any of my cats answer to their names anyway  ::) ). Your little tabby is very pretty as well and I'm sure the two of them will be friends soon enough  :)

Now, if you need another one in the future we have bundles of kittens coming in as it is that time of the year again and even though I swore I would stop fostering this year it hasn't happened and I'm still taming little feral terrors ::)

Noooooo!

No more cats! I originally told the children that they couldn't have two!

Angel Mittens is 18 months old and the lady before took her off a friend who had let her have a litter and left her a bag of bones!  :(  She is still very thin and stringy, but she'll soon bulk up in our house.

I have also just received a phone call from another Freecycler to inform me that I can have the two young chooks that she had offered... Oh dear. I haven't built my run on the allotment yet.  Not sure how Mrs Scabs is going to react when I tell her that they are going to be living in the garden for a few weeks - good job I haven't dismantled the coop yet.

Still, I've missed having hens about. Just need to make sure I close the coop properly from now on...  :(

Yeah... gutted. She was a cracker too. Started looking poorly months ago and then perked up, drank, fed well and seemed plump and healthy. Then she was curled up dead as a dodo one morning. She was only a youngster too.  :(

Just Sidney the Salmon Pink now.  :(

i love the puddy cats and am rather partial to tabbies

My re-homed Siamese had the stupid name of Storm ::)  she's quite happy with Lucy and never noticed the name change....I'm sure it's the tone of voice they respond to (but only if they want to..of course :D )
