RIP Dulcie Dog
« on: March 13, 2010, 13:19 »
My mum lost her 11 year old scottish deerhound on Thursday.  Dulcie had gone with her to feed the chooks and was pottering around the garden.  Mum found her minutes later collapsed under a bush, not breathing and no pulse.  She rushed her to the vets but there was nothing they could do.  I am shocked with the suddeness of it as she was really well despite being a very good age for her breed.  In the space of a few months mum has lost both dogs and the last cat.  Just needed to put it down in words.

What an awful shock for your poor mum  :( To also have lost her other dog and cat recently - my heart goes out to her as she must be so devastated losing her friends so quickly after one another. It sounds as though Dulcie had a happy life though and at least she passed quickly and while having a lovely afternoon stroll with her mum x

Awwww. our thought are with you. I agree with Caralou - at least Dulcie was happy with her mum when it happened. Aww
small, Welsh and almost certainly bonkers, but can be tamed with Talisker, if required

Thanks all.  My dad announced this morning that they were going to collect an abyssinian kitten this afternoon and he has ordered a blue point tonkinese kitten for her birthday.  i've just had to dig out the kitten litter tray for them :)  Cara - Rosa will be an aunty now and she's no longer the youngest cat in the family.

Dulcie was a lovely dog, she used to stay with us if mum was away and I loved having here.  Deerhounds are not a long lived breed, when we got her we were told that 8 was a good age for them, so I guess we must have got it right with her.

Awww - your dad is spoiling her with those two little bundles  It doesn't heal the hurt but concentrating on the mayhem the kitten will bring should hopefully help a little. Phil is desperate to see Rosa again as she is one of the ones that really got to him after the health scares and the vets telling us to put her to sleep. It sounds like you have an animal mad family  :D I hope your mum is okay x

I am sorry to hear about your Dulcie Dog  :(
One of my Borders is called Dulcie, it's not a common name for a dog

The other dog mum lost (aged 17) was a Border called Tassel.  Dulcie was known as DD (Dulcie Dog)

I feel so sorry for your mum.  I have always had/bred Boxers which have a supposed 'shelf life' of 8 to 10 years.  Rocky died at 10 and Fudge at 14.  Mongrels always seem to last longer for some reason but to lose a pet at any age is always a shame.
