oh my god please help
« on: February 05, 2010, 23:07 »
Betsy the duck has taken a turn for the worse.
She's lying in my arms now. She is shivering. Please say she will be ok.
I'm crying my heart out. Why?????

Sorry, I just don't want her to go.
I'm crying my eyes out.

What's happened hun? Was she ill before the shivering? Has she been caught in the cold or is she otherwise unwell? xxx

She's poorly. I have her wrapped up in a towel and i'm cuddling her. She is my first ducky.
I'll cuddle her until she goes

Oh no sweetie  :( Not much I can do from here but give you a big cyber hug. Cuddle her and reassure her so her passing is content and full of love. Is there anything a vet could do? I know ours have an out of hours practice? xxx

I dont think  a vet will help. I  think it's just her time.  Poor baby. She will sleep with me tonight and probably go during the night.
I just think its so sad that Besty and Pretzl were wandering about the garden just a few weeks ago.  :(
I just cant stop blubbing

don't give up yet, ducks are quite hardy, don't panic and be upset, cuddling won't harm her, keep her warm but don't let her over heat..............try to give her fluids and if it's is her time to go........... so be it, sometimes we can't save them, with the best will in the world it's not enough...........................
really hope Betsy will be ok.

Sorry i've only just caught up. How is she this morning?? Can she drink?? Get a syringe like the ones you give medicines to kiddies and give her fluids through that.
I know how you feel, it's only been a week since I was doing the same with Zorro. Pm me if you want me.

Janet, how is she? agree with matilda duck if you can get some fluids down her by whatever stress free method you can if you have no syringe. huge hugs xxx

well, little ducky is still with us.
I've calmed down a bit too.....i think i was panicking just a little last night!!!

the vets were a bit useless as there is only certain vets at the practice that will see poultry, cause apparently they are exotic pets , and none of those vets were on today.

she's been drinking ok and had a bit of banana mashed up with rescue remedy. the silly muppet even laid an egg!

she's no longer shivering, but is very subdued.  :(

i've used calpol on the chickens before, but never on the ducks. might try that later.
xxx
