wallflower
« on: April 27, 2019, 20:17 »
looking ahead for sowing Wallflower seed in June I was looking at a new Wallflower variety for overwintering that can be sown in pots for spring flowering heavily scented H 10-15CM

but as we have always grew wallflowers from direct seed sowings in rows then  pulled the plants for re-planting I'm unsure if I should sow the seed in the open ground then pull and pot to overwinter or if I should sow the seed directly into the pot to overwinter and what size pot I should use any advise much appreciated before deciding to buy the seed

I love wallflowers but haven't grown any in recent years. What variety are they? From what you say they can be sown in pots to be over-wintered, so I'd just sow some seed into a small pot, prick them on into larger pots when they have three or four leaves, so see what the packet recommends as to whether you plant them out in autumn or leave them in individual pots, but I think the former will be better as they will have rooted before winter comes and the soil should protect them.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

How many seeds in the packet? Maybe enough to try both methods perhaps?

100 seeds per pack not sure how many to set per pot? also will probably need a deep pot? its really going to be trial and error just thought its something to try and in pots and one could move them around if needed anyway thanks for your replies RW
