Title: so many chestnuts
Post by: sarajane on October 19, 2014, 20:33
Went to collect chestnuts this afternoon. Wow what a bumper year. We picked 10lb in the space of an hour.  I think the wind helped as they were being blown off and landing on us.  Just spent 2 hours peeling 4lb of then and have nearly 3lb for the freezer.

Actually I now cannot feel my fingertips so the rest may have to just be roasted.

I am sooo jealous! Do you just know where there are some growing locally ad go foraging? I need to find some. So do you peel them uncooked and freeze them?

We.re lucky to have a large forest 20 mins away from us in chester.  I put them in hot water.peel then then freeze and Chuck them into roasters for 10 mins or chop up to go into stuffing.

You can also freeze then whole as they don.t. keep the same as other nuts.
