Cool Looking Home Made Greenhouse Ideas?
« on: May 11, 2009, 13:10 »
Hi guys,

I currently use next doors green house, and as much as it is a great "relationship" the Bozo's that cut nextdoors lawn have once again detached the watering system that i put in when i'm away.! >:(

so, ive decided that i need my own greenhouse. Daddy bear has offered to buy me one as a birthday present (an he forgot Christmas too) but thats far too easy / cheeky!

With this in mind, have any of you any images or ideas for a cool looking greenhouse that i can build? Sky is pretty much the limit on this one, ive been looking into geodesic domes, and various polytunnel options, but they dont seem to fit where i want to put it.

The site of is is shown below - it seems to be the place that will get the best sun tbh.

so what do you think, if youve got ideas or pictures, they would be greatfully recieved!

without detracting from the appeal of your own greenhouse can I ask if there is any possibility of moving next doors greenhouse that you use now onto your side or alternatively cutting their grass to cut out the source of your main trouble. Then use the greenhouse fund for a large windowed potting shed and/or cold frames for overflows from the relocated greenhouse

yeh, ive thought of that. Long story, but its a no-go unfortunately (on all counts)

this is a chance for me to sort a cool looking greenhouse out, and use a bit of waste land that i have just created!

I really want something nice looking, as it will then compliment the garden. I often think that the conventional green house has no design flaire whatsoever!

ohh, they are pretty cool, i like the idea of a pit greennhouse - it must appeal to the welsh miner in my blood.

Shame i hadnt seen it before, as i have just backfilled all the earth behind the wall!

I know a lot places up here where a pit greenhouse would be a good idea (This is a place where Porta-cabins and caravans often implode and then end up scattered as scrap over fields and into the sea on a regular basis. I am lucky in having a walled and sheltered garden, but will try and persuade someone else to build one.

You are seriously thinking of a Buckminster Fuller dome? I had to create a 3ft in diameter model for A level. My sage advice to you is don't try! It is so very hard to keep every pane and connector within tolerance unless you do a dual, which is easier.

Pit greenhouse looks like a great idea. Whatever you decide.. pics please!

I rather fancy those tall, elegant looking models with high soaring eaves ....
