Sweetcorn mites.
« on: August 26, 2013, 12:27 »
My OH has just brought in our first cob from the g'house and it was all fully pollinated.  :tongue2: :tongue2: :tongue2: Thing is, he said he could smell a sweet, fusty smell which he immediately associated with the same smell he has found in his stored grain / poultry corn which we use to feed the hens. To the best of his knowledge, it is known as "Mill mite" or "Mill weevil" and is a tiny mite that attaches itself to leaves and cobs. It doesn't seem to be a problem for our hens, but anyone else had this?
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
