I've tried them with runner beans....they just won't touch them. Put them in the compost.

OOO wow how about that!? Isn't is amazing how they vary...mine will simply not touch runner beans. They'll eat broad beans but not the pods though.

I normally soften the pods by boiling them for  about 5 minutes... no seasoning required  :D
It is funny, because one week I will give them something like sweetcorn and they won't eat it and a couple of weeks later they can't get enough. I guess because they are young, their tastes are expanding.

Mine won't eat beans but will eat: -

Cabbage
Brussel Sprouts
Raddish Tops
Turnips
Sweetcorn
Lettuce
Chard
Spinach
Tomatoes
Courgettes
Squash
Cucumber

And what do I have a surplus of now - Runner Beans, tons of them

Try giving runner beans a whizz in a food processor, mine will eat anything if its chopped up small :)

Our hens love the apples from the tree, they go mad when we put one in the run, they also love Curly Kale. :)
