Pumpkin
« on: August 18, 2013, 19:09 »
Hello. My problem is I have got two pumkin plants growing. On one plant a pumkin has formed and no others. The other plant has nothing. The flowers keep falling off. I`ve tried a search and found a post saying about using the male flower to pollenate the female. How do I tell the differance. The plants are from seeds  my wife got to go in her meusli (we thought we`d give it a go) so I don`t know what they exactly are.

If you look closely you will see that the female will have a small fruit at the base of the flower and the male has not.

Thank you bravemurphy. I`ve just been outside and looked. I see what you mean. There seems to be a female flower hidden under a leaf. the rest seem to be male.I`ll just have to wait till she opens. I`m a complete novice at this. I have a couple of books and have looked on the internet but you can`t always find the answers.

                                                                Thanks again

Here's a pic for anyone that unsure. It shows a courgette but all the squash/pumpkin/cucumber/melon family look fairly similar  ;)
