Howard 350 rotavator engine swop
« on: October 08, 2012, 23:23 »
I have recently bought a howard 350 with a Kohler K141 engine. The  con rod is snapped & my friend has had two similar machines both with the same problem, I am thinking about replacing the engine with a honda gx 270 with a 25mm crankshaft does anyone know if my clutch will fit this new engine & also how do I remove the clutch from the old Kohler engine.

Sorry I can't help with your questions, but would it not be cheaper to replace the conrod? I think they snap because of a lack of oil, generally.

There will  need to be  some modifcation to the clutch mounting system as they they seem to be  engine specific and Honda engines wern't an option when the 350 was in production.
without measuring one I would guess the  shaft size and keyway could be problematic if you don't have or know of someone with the necessary skills to do the work.

rebuilding it might be an option but on both of my mates ones when the con rod has snapped it has broken a large piece out of the bottom of the cylinder liner. I have measured the end of the kohler crank & it is 25mm the same as the honda & most other small plant engines they seem to come in two sizes either 25mm 0r 20mm. I didnt give the honda centrifugal clutch a thought does anyone have a picture or any info on them

hi
I cant really help with your roblem, but I need to get hold of some parts from a kohler k141 engine. if yours is kaput, could I raid it for spares?

I know thats  a bit cheeky, but I am struggling to get even the most basic bits for mine.
