basic food hygiene certificate
« on: December 05, 2010, 08:43 »
I am thinking of taking the basic food hygiene certificate so that I would be able to sell my jams and chutneys. Now as far as I under stand I will need a basic food hygiene certificate to be able to do this, is this correct or is there something else I need ?

Is a certificate needed for the premises that the good are made in or is the above certificate  enough ?

I have noticed lots of on-line courses are these real ? and are the certificates worth the money or are they tat ?

What course did you do ? and was it worth it ?

Sorry for the questions :)

you may have to have your premises inspected and you will need to have to have 2 sinks - one just for hands and the others for pots. The basic food hygiene certificate is just that very basic. Ma Lowe has a cake business and bakes and decorates on her premises so it might be worth pm-ing her  :)

Contact your local College as they may be able to offer you a free day course and you will walk away with the cirtificate at the end of it.  :)

It would be your local environmental health department that regulate all the local food businesses, so phone them and they will send you a pack with all the information you need.

Yes, an online course is valid.  I got my first one from catering college and did the next one online, no problem.  Just take lots of notes as you go along as it is a lot to take in, but most of it is common sense. :)

we had a chppie and i did the basic one and hubby did the intermediate as there were only te 2 of us working that was over 10 yars ago now though things will have moved on but i would think you will have an inspection at some point , i hated it every time they came to the shop but after a while you realise that they are there to help and not the enamy ask lots of questions and phone the council for your local enviromentel health to get some hhelp sheets
