What is the difference?

ok I should know this seeing as how my father has been growing tomatoes since I was a wean and its a good job he does not have a clue about the net

What is the difference between a truss and a side shoot and how do I know which one I should be nipping off?

Also how big do I let them get before removing side shoots???

A truss is the vine bit which has flowers and then tomatoes on it.

A side shoot grows out of the angle between a leaf and the main stem.

For cordon types of tomatoes you pinch out the side shoots - the sooner the better.

Don't touch the trusses!!

The earlier you remove the side shoots the better, if you overlook one and it gets quite big, break it off or carefully cut it early in the morning when it is more brittle.

If you are winding the stems of your tom's round a cane, do this in the late afternoon when the stems are sofetr and more flexible.
