Naw. They'll soon catch up.

Only just sown mine for outside growing. Always do it at this time of year and get a good crop, blight permitting!

So if they're going in the greenhouse, they'll still be earlier than the plot ones.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Mine just did the same thing, OH reckons it was lack of sunlight in the windowsill at the weekend.  Anyway, I'm going to keep trying - just wish they wouldn't keep falling over as soon as they've germinated.

I use a 2ft fluorescent light just hung up over a windowsill this time of year and It doesn't half make a difference on dull days.

Mine just haven't come up - it's been about 2 weeks now and nothing. No idea what I did wrong. I think they had enough light (in polytunnel) and never dried out or got too wet. Could it be the cold snap last weekend?

Is it normal to kill plants and have things not germinate as you learn gardening?

What's the right atttitude to approach gardening with?

And is there a gardening store online that sells patience?

Feeling a bit inept and sorry for myself today! :(

Could the seedling death be due to 'damping off'? I had some problems with that happening to some of the flowery things I sowed. I've used Cheshunt Compound when sowing everything since and that seems to have kept it at bay. I think it can get the poor little things before they've even emerged.

reefskin mine were in an electric propagator which is why they are through so quickly, if they are cold they will probably take ages and might not want to germinate at all

Agreed with the cold bit. Don't believe in opening my wallet for electric propagators. Mine germinate fine in the landing window with a clear, upturned, plastic supermarket meat tray on top.

Once through, whip the tray off & stick some aluminium foil behind them to give them all round light. Been working for me for over 40 years!

Right, am level-headed again, calm, and have ordered in supplies. Thank you for the kind replies :)

Will try the indoor method with plastic meat trays.

Does anyone put them keep them out of light until they sprout?

This guy here talks about it: http://www.kdcomm.net/~tomato/Tomato/start.html
