Broad Beans and Blackfly
« on: July 27, 2019, 16:54 »
Just a little something that may be of interest. This season, I sowed a variety of broad beans called Grano Violeta. A variety I hadn't tried before, because the supplier I used didn't sell my usual variety. Then, I found my favourites, Bunyard's Exhibition, in a garden centre, and bought some. Sowed them next to the other variety. ( Sorry this is a bit long winded). The upshot is, they both grew very well, so they were actually touching. Then the black fly arrived. They swarmed over the Bunyard's Exhibition, but hardly touched the Grano Violeta. I conclude from this that certain varieties of broad beans have less attraction to black fly. Anyone else experienced this, or have any thoughts?
